  • Happy New Year! What’s in Store For 2008?

    Just like me to procrastinate on my New Year’s greeting.  I guess I should’ve made a resolution to be less tardy?  I hope everyone had a great new year and that 2008 brings good things!

    I was listening to 680 News Radio the other day and they had a story on a Toronto Psychic who’s 2007 predictions came true for the previous year.  I figured I’d post some of them here and keep tabs on which ones pan out or not (not that I believe in any of this stuff… :D )

    Nikki – Psychic to the Stars previously predicted Jennifer Lopez’s pregnancy in the September 11, 2006 issue of the US Sun Magazine tabloid, as well as the pregnancy of Angelina Jolie, the fires in Greece and the fires in Southern California including San Diego and Malibu, bridge collapse in Minnesota, the marriage of Eva Longoria, the Lebanon War, and the riots in Pakistan. Nikki also predicted the deaths of Anna Nicole Smith, Joey Bishop, Merv Griffin, Tammy Faye Baker, Luciano Pavarotti, and Shelley Winters.  Here’s some of her predictions for 2008:

    • Sean Penn will be wounded when he visits the Middle East.
    • George Clooney will marry in Como Italy suddenly and will father a child.
    • Penelope Cruz will run for politics in Spain.
    • A Hollywood power couple will announce their divorce on Larry King Live.
    • Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan have to watch their health. (okay… no surprise there)
    • Deal or No Deal Howie Mandel will have a new sitcom and will host the Oscars in the future.
    • Tragedy around the Maid of the Mist in Niagara Falls.
    • A category 5 hurricane wipes out Miami.
    • Five men will rob a jewelry story in New York with taser guns and a man dressed as a Roman Gladiator will rob banks in Los Angeles.
    • A raging fire in Chicago will destroy a large portion of the Old Chicago area and a bridge will collapse in Toronto, Canada.
    • Gigantic earthquake will hit Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco and an earthquake will destroy parts of Athens, Greece.
    • The largest Powerball Lottery ever won in the United States will go to a homeless person.

  • Merry Christmas, Everyone!

    I hope the holidays are going well for each and every one of you and that you’re spending it with family and friends. I know you’re probably all geared up for Boxing Day shopping tomorrow, but try to take some time to think about the less fortunate this season and cherish what you have.

    I never thought I’d be the one to post pictures of my cat on my blog, but I actually got him to wear a Santa hat for a while:

  • ‘Tis The Season For… Organization!

    It feels good getting some time off from work. I spent most of my holiday time off cleaning up my place and organizing. Finally put away all my clothes that were laying in my laundry basket. Sorted them and ended up giving one bag as hand-me-downs to my female family members, and another bag for Goodwill. My closet is currently organized by colour and drawers by type of clothing. Now I have lot’s of room for all the clothes I’ll be buying when I go Boxing Day shopping on the 26th and hopefully to the States on the weekend.

    I also finally organized all my DVDs (alphabetically, of course). I didn’t realize I had so many. I purchased two Benno CD/DVD Towers from IKEA when they had a sale on them last month, and put those babies together with my handy drill. It wasn’t until I realized that I was running out of space for my boxed sets and TV series DVDs that I knew I needed another tower (or two). I think I have over 200 DVDs (and counting). That doesn’t include the DVD’s I lent to my friends and forgot about. The funny thing is about 25% of them are still in their shrink wrap.

    I’ll get around to watching those movies again one of these days… :D

  • The Cat-Saving TTC Bus Driver

    I was on my way home from work on Friday night, waiting at the bus station, wondering why my bus was 10 minutes late.  There were over a dozen passengers waiting for the same bus, and as it finally came around the corner we all ushered in and were surprised to see a sweet-looking, brown, Persian cat sitting near the front doors on top of the platform that’s over the front-right wheel.

    Everyone was wondering what this cat was doing on the bus.  As the driver pulled out of the station, she got on her intercom and started to tell us the story as to why she was late:  apparently this poor cat was crossing the road and the driver had seen it get clipped by a passing car.  Instead of leaving the injured cat out in the cold, she brought the cat into the bus, sat it down on the platform, called the SPCA. and continued on to the station.  The SPCA was going to meet her and pick up the cat on route.

    After the driver had told everyone on the bus the story, everyone was understanding and stated that that was a good reason to be late.  The cat seemed like it had a broken leg (I saw it try to get up and walk but it kept on falling down :( ).  One of the other passengers on the bus got up to pick the cat up off the floor where it fell and make sure it was back on the platform sitting and steady as the bus was moving (she even admitted that she was allergic to cats). Such a beautiful cat, though.  It didn’t have a collar, but appeared to be well-taken care of.  Perhaps, the cat just got out of it’s owners home without them knowing and was trying to get back.  I hope that it’s leg is on the mend and that it’s back in a warm, loving home.

    Kudos to the TTC driver with the good heart. :)

  • Who Eats Chicken in a Public Washroom?

    Clean Hands Report CardI’m sure most of you have had your fair share of public washroom faux-pas… and yes, I actually saw a chicken bone in the overflowing waste bin of my workplace washroom the other day (makes you think, doesn’t it).

    You should really be observant of how many people actually do take their hygeine into consideration when using public washroom. I’ve counted many times when I’ll be at a stall, hear the toilet flush in the stall next to me, and then footsteps quickly echoing to the exit–no, I didn’t hear the water faucet run. Ewww… how can anyone use the washroom and not wash their hands?! It makes me wonder how often men do it.

    According to a study sponsored by the American Society for Microbiology and The Soap and Detergent Association, 88 per cent of women washed their hands in public restrooms, compared to just 66 per cent of the guys. Can you believe that? 1 out of every 3 men you shake hands with don’t wash their hands after using the washroom! That is exactly one of the reasons I always keep some instant hand sanitizer at my desk.

    The study also outed some liars: 92% of people say they wash their hands in public restrooms, but only 77% were actually observed doing so. That’s just nasty. Here’s a list of hand-washing directions from the SDA so that 23% of you can get up to par:

    Cleaning your hands when soap and running water are available:

    • Wet hands with warm, running water – prior to reaching for soap (bar or liquid form). This applies to most products; however, some foaming hand washes should be applied to dry hands.
    • Move hands away from the water, and make a lather by rubbing hands together.
    • Be sure to wash the front and back of hands, between fingers, round and under nails for 15 seconds or more.
    • Rinse hands well under warm, running water.
    • Dry hands thoroughly with a clean paper or cloth towel or air dryer.

    And here are some critical times that you should be washing your hands:

    • Before and after meals and snacks
    • Before caring for young children
    • After touching a public surface
    • Before and after preparing food
    • After using the restroom
    • When hands are dirty especially raw meat, poultry, or seafood
    • After touching animals
    • When you or someone around you is ill
