  • Yes, I’m going dog sledding…

Winterdance Dog Sled Tours - winterdance.comYou read right: This Saturday, Yours Truly is stepping on a sled and is going to be pulled by a bunch of huskeys in the cold snows of Haliburton with Winterdance Dog Sled Tours.

My friend (yes, she’s white) sent me an email a while ago asking if I wanted to go dog sledding. I thought about it for a second: me–an urban, black chick who doesn’t like the cold or snow, and would rather be at home chasing her cat around the living room with a spray water bottle after seeing him scratch the sofa–out on a sled being pulled by dogs… Sure! Why not? I made a resolution to myself this year to be a bit more adventurous and this certainly fits the bill. Especially seeing the look on my co-workers and friends faces when this scenario plays out:

Friend/Aquainence/Co-worker: “So, Monique… what are you up to this weekend?”

    Me: “Going dog sledding”

    Friend/Aquainence/Co-worker: ——

I wonder if I’ll be the first black woman in Toronto to go dog sledding… much less in Haliburton? :D I’ll be sure to post some photos when I get back… IF I get back. So if you don’t see any new posts published by me within the next week, then you’ll know I’ve got eaten by dogs or that my ‘friend’ abandoned me in the woods.

  • Aloha, Hawaii Chair!

I’m not sure how many of you have already seen this wacky infomercial, but this is the first time I’ve checked it out after hearing about it on a forum a couple months ago. I honestly thought there couldn’t be a worse infomercial than Ron Popeil’s Ronco GHL Hair-in-a-Can. It seems I was horibbly mistaken. The Hawaii Chair has taken the throne for Most Stupid Product Seen in an Informercial. For only $293.96 you can have your hips gyrating and ‘lose weight’ while in the comfort of your own home, or while working at the office (I can only imagine the stares from across the cubicle).

In just 20 minutes a day, you can hula yourself to a healthier-looking you!

Here’s a clip from the informercial (lol@the lame jingle!):

What cracked me up was talk show host Ellen Degeneres testing out the contraption on her show:

Wow… the Hawaii Chair seems like it could really take the work out of my workday! Seriously… who thinks these things up?!

  • Mother Nature is playing tricks with us…

Just when Torontonians think Spring is going to poke it’s head around the corner, we are hit with another snow storm.  The latest weather forecasts predict about 20 centimeters by Sunday.  Check out this report by CityNews.

This weather really sucks monkey balls! I bought some nice shoes a couple weeks ago, but I can’t wear them now because I’m either walking in 2 feet of snow, or stepping in shin-deep puddles of water!  It snows, it melts… snows some more, then melts!  Arrrgghhh!  Nature is being tricksey!

It’s a damn good thing I have no weekend plans.  Thank goodness I don’t have to shovel!

  • Basketball is a Dangerous Sport

I never would have thought that when I signed up to play in an social basketball leauge that I would have sustained so many injuries. I think I got more injuries playing basketball than I have in muay Thai Kickboxing!

Our team had a game tonight… pretty close score. As I go up for the defensive rebound I see this girl’s arm swing into my face. I went down to the floor in pain and the first thing I thought about was if my work benefits package covered cosmetic dentistry! I got hit in the nose/mouth with this chick’s forearm… man, did it hurt. I though my teeth were knocked out, but it only ended up being a busted lip and a bleeding nose. At least my opponent apologized after.

Sure was a lot of blood though.  The school attendant went missing so we couldn’t get an ice-bag or gauze, so one of my teammates was nice enough to grab some snow from outside and put in a plastic bag so that I can use to stop the swelling :) .  It’s feeling a tad better now, but the lip’s still swollen.  I would post a pic, but don’t want to scare any of you… :D

Damn, chicks can be rough. I think I’ll take up organized curling.

  • Kids Doing That Damn Soulja Boy Dance

This song is played out now, but it wasn’t until recently that I came across this video on YouTube of what seems to be a kids ballet/jazz class doing a short routine to Soulja Boy Tellem’s “Crank Dat”. LOL@this little boy at the front!
