  • I’m a Finalist!

2007 Black Weblog Awards FinalistI’d like to thank everyone who nominated my blog for the 2007 Black Weblog Awards. Guess what? I’m a finalist (as if you couldn’t tell from the title of this post)!

A Lot About Nothing is a finalist in the Best International Blog and Best Food Blog. The latter came to a great surprise to me, because I didn’t think of ALAN as a food blog, but then I went through my archive and noticed that I sure have a lot of posts about food! :D I’ve actually been meaning to put more recipes up that I’ve used in the past couple of weeks, but my digital camera takes crappy close-up shots. :P

Back to the matter at hand, I’m begging–err… asking for you to head over to the 2007 Black Weblog Awards website and vote for my blog (https://alotaboutnothing.com) in the Best International Blog (yay, Canada!), and the Best Food Blog categories. Make sure you check out some of the blogs in the other categories as well, since you have to make one selection for each category in order to send in the ballot. Hurry… voting ends August 31st!

    Thanks again! :)

  • Rain, Rain Go Away

Booo… thanks to Mother Nature, there’ll be no Hot & Spicy Food Festival or Taste of the Danforth part II for me today. :(

Had a lot of fun at the family barbeque yesterday though!  Jerk chicken, BBQ chicken, curry goat, BBQ pork, rice & peas, salad, sweet potato pudding, rum cake, fresh fruits… mmm… my mouth is watering just reminiscing!  It’s a good thing I did a double workout yesterday.

As for the rest of today: I think I’ll go and see a movie. :)

  • 2007 Black Weblog Awards

2007 Black Weblog AwardsEven though ALotAboutNothing.com has only been live for a couple of months, I ain’t too proud to beg for a vote from my loyal readers (or ones that just ended up here by fluke). :D

The 2007 Black Weblog Awards are currently underway, and until August 15th, they’ll be accepting nominations for your favourite weblogs for, by and/or about Black people. And since I am “Black” (with a lovely ‘fro, mind you) and have a blog that speaks to not only Black people, but targets everyone (and almost every topic), I think I should garner your vote. ;)

All you have to do is visit the Black Weblog Awards site, enter your name and a valid email address, and type in my blog address (https://alotaboutnothing.com) in any of the categories that you think I’d fit the title.

What categories do you think I feel I should be nominated in? Well I thought you’d never ask! The first one that comes to mind is “Best International Blog” (since my blog isn’t based in the United States). I also think I’d have a chance in the “Best Blog Design” category (since it’s a pretty good original design, not relying on other WordPress templates) and “Best New Blog” (well… since my blog is new). “Best Personal Blog” would also be able to house my site since I post my various rants about my life and experiences.

You’re only limited one ballot, so if you feel sorry for me and feel like voting twice in the same category, don’t bother. However, you are allowed to nominate my blog in more than one category on a single ballot entry. And if you know of any other Black blogs out there that you frequent, vote for them on the same form as well (hopefully not in the same categories as mine! :P ) Don’t forget to spread some love and get your friends to visit my blog as well.

Thanks in advance to all you potential voters out there. And if you have any ideas on what you think would be a good blog post for ALotAboutNothing.com (another shopping guide perhaps?!), feel free to contact me.

  • I Feel Like Inline Skating Today

So I bought a pair of Nike N-Dorfin 6 inline skates at Canadian Tire back in early June.  Why is it that only today, I’m taking it out of the box with the intention of actually using them?  Yes, it was one of my impulse buys… but I wouldn’t deem it as an unecessary purchase (although I waited until the end of summer to use them), because they’re a good investiment… especially if I want to keep fit.

They only cost me about $119 on sale.  They’re really comfy and seem very durable.  Now all I gotta do is actually wear them outside.   Mind you I haven’t used inline skates since I was a kid, and I’m more used to skating on ice… I had no idea that there was only one brake pad on a pair of skates!  Now I’m afraid to go outside and use them!

I have wrist guards, but it looks like I may need to invest in more protective gear.  :)

  • Caribana Friday on Toronto’s Yonge Street

I almost forgot about this fairly well-known event that happens the Friday night before the annual Caribana Parade. It should be properly titled the “Pick up greasy men in rented Hummers/Pick up underage women dressed in skimpy clothing and watch out for the video cameras Festival”.

Personally, I never walked aimlessly up and down Yonge Street on this specific night. Frankly, I don’t like putting myself in the position of being “pssssssstt” at men who obviously want only one thing. I hope the parents of some of these underage attendees know where there children are.

I may pass by the parade tomorrow though… you know, to pick up a roti. :D
