Happy Birthday To My Blog!!!

Today, June 24th, marks the first birthday (or should I say anniversary) of my blog. I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since I tinkered with WordPress, my first CMS , and made my first post.

I think alotaboutnothing.com has come a long way since it’s conception. My blog is frequently at the top of Google’s search engine for a variety of terms including “Turbo Jam”, “Orfus Road” and even “how to make sushi”! Alotaboutnothing.com won the popular vote from the Black Weblog Awards for ‘Best Food Blog‘. I’m very happy that I could help all you readers out there with shopping tips, reviews on different products, recipes and entertain you with my random posts.

I even got an email from blogged.com today saying that alotaboutnothing.com was rated a 8.3 out of 10 in the “entertainment” category (I might have to edit that since my blog doesn’t really fit a particular niche) by their editors. Not too shabby if I do say so myself.

I started alotaboutnothing.com basically as a personal blog to post about little things that interest me, and to keep my writing skills up to par. There has been over 135 posts and a bunch of comments since then, so here’s for more in the next coming year!
Even though my schedule is a bit busy, I’ll try my best to keep my posts as frequent as possible. Don’t forget to let me know what you think about my blog! :)

My Wii Fit called me fat after I nearly set my gas BBQ on fire

This was one of the more eventful weekends I’ve had in a while.  Sure I spent a good chunk of it getting my hair done, but on Sunday I had a few friends over for a BBQ to start the summer.  I stocked up on lots of meat and marinated some tandoori chicken, jerk chicken, BBQ pork, and teriyaki beef the night before and it was all ready to go on the grill Sunday afternoon.

Thank God the rain held off (it started coming down just after I finished cooking the meat).  I was keeping my fingers crossed up until then since I would’ve been cooking all my meat on my indoor “Foreman Grill” if it started pouring and storming.  Went out about 2:30 and started with the meat.  I probably should’ve purchased an piece of pork that was already sliced:  I couldn’t get through half of it with my own knife, so just put she rest of the shoulder on the grill.  It’s that damn piece of pig and it’s drippings which sparked a ‘small’ inferno on the BBQ.  Going on the advice of my friends and my own common sense I closed the lid to the grill after turning off the burners hoping that the giant flames would die down.  Black smoke kept spewing out the rear of the grill, so I opened it back up and tried to shimmy the meat that was burning onto the opposite side of the grill where it was cooler.  After about a minute or so the flames eventually died down.  I had to chuck a chicken leg or two, but at least they were still edible: Cajun-style.

I wish I had my camera outside at the time to take some photos, but I assure you, the food was tasty! :D  Played my Wii Fit for the first time yesterday as well.  The set-up process where it analyzes your BMI and gives you a fitness test was a tad embarrassing… esp. when that damn thing said “oooh” everytime someone stepped on it.  Okay, so my Wii Fit didn’t call me fat, but it did state that I’m “overweight” with a BMI of 27.23.  I’m just wondering how accurate this can really be, since it doesn’t really incorporate other factors such as muscle mass into the score.  There is also a balance and posture test which was interesting.  The Wii Fit also gives you a Wii Fit Age:  mine is 38.  Looks like I have a bit more fitness to do in order to get back into my 20s.  The games were really fun though.  I loved the Ski Slalom and the Hula Hoop game.   Wii Fit is a lot of fun… especially with a groupe of people.

I’m going to try and stop myself from reaching into the freezer and taking a bowl of chocolate fudge brownie ice cream…

Yay! I finally got me a Wii Fit!

Wii FitI didn’t think Nintendo’s Wii Fit would be such a hassle to find in stores like the Wii console was. After hitting three different stores last week (ToysRUs, Rogers Video and a Shoppers Drug Mart), I had no luck. They appeared to be sold out everywhere, with sporadic shipments that were gone within hours online and in stores.

Initially I was going to stop at Rogers Video again today and check to see if they got stock in, but I opted to go to the Wal-Mart Supercentre at Warden & Eglinton and I lucked out! Went straight to the electronics department, asked the stock guy and waited after he said, “Hold on, lemme check”, and was out of the store 1 minute later! Thank goodness I got off work early today. :)

I can’t wait to try out the balance board and play those cool-looking games, but I probably won’t have time to until Sunday since I have a busy weekend planned.

Can you say “Antidisestablishmentarianism”?

This has got to be one of the funniest commercials I’ve seen in a while. Dairy Queen always has a way of cracking me up with their television ads. The baby in this one is so cute… especially his laugh at the end. I should really stop buy there one day since I haven’t been since I was a kid. Heck, I didn’t even know they sold stuff like hot dogs, burgers and chicken wraps until recently!
