You Gotta Love 90’s Music…

I picked up an interesting freebie at work recently Hits of the 90’s: Classic Music Videos, so I put it in my DVD player to  check out some of the vids, because I didn’t recollect some of the tunes by just the name on the DVD jacket. Eagle-Eye-Cherry’s “Save Tonight”, Ace Of Base’s “All That She Wants”, Joan Osborne’s “One of Us” and Ce Ce Peniston’s “Finally” were just a few of the videos that were on the DVD. I remember watching a lot of them back when MuchMusic actually played music videos instead of crappy reality shows, station-produced celebrity gossip shows, and dozens of daily reruns of So You Think You Can Dance season 2.

One of the titles that caused a faint recollection was 4 Non Blondes “What’s Up”. After watching the first few seconds of the video I was like, “I remember this song!”.  The funny thing is that I could’ve sworn I heard this song used in something else recently. I couldn’t put my finger on it. Was it a car commercial? Movie soundtrack? Then it hit me:

Cucumber Tomato Salad with Bocconcini

Not only is this salad quick to put together, it also makes a great side to any meal, and works as a nice, healthy snack. Bocconcini is a smooth, round, mild-tasting cheese–soft, unripened mozzarella. I like to use the mini pearls, but you can use the regular sized bocconcini if you like.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients:

1 200g tub of TreStelle Bocconcini cheese
1 pint container of Grape Tomatoes
1 large English Cucumber
3 tablespoon Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
2 tablespoon Balsamic Vinegar
1 teaspoon of Club House Salad Herbs Seasoning or Mrs. Dash (more or less to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Peel and chop the cucumber into bite-sized cubes and place into a large bowl.
  2. Add the grape tomatoes and bocconcini cheese to the cucumbers and mix with a large spoon.
  3. In an salad dressing bottle, or small bowl mix together the olive oil, balsamic vinegar and seasoning to taste. Pour over the cucumber mixture, mixing and coating thoroughly.
  4. Serve and enjoy.

What’s Open and Closed On Labour Day

Sep

2007

I hope you got all your back-to-school shopping done, and picked up those last minute groceries yesterday, because practically everything is closed today. Including:

  • Most shopping malls
  • Grocery stores
  • Banks
  • Libraries
  • LCBO/Beer stores
  • Government offices
  • and there’ll be no mail delivery

Since the Toronto Eaton Centre is designated as a tourist area, it will be open today from 10am – 6pm. Vaughan Mills Mall will also be open until 7pm. Some of the shops (including Le Chateau Outlet) on Orfus Road will be open today for all you bargain hunters.

If you’re planning on taking the bus anywhere, TTC, Mississauga Transit and GO Transit will be operating on holiday schedules today, and be back to regular service tomorrow.

Today is the last day of The Ex, so if you haven’t reached as yet, make sure you drop by (and get your Tiny Tom Donuts!)

Enjoy what’s left of your long weekend! :)

Shopping at The Ex

When most people think about the Canadian National Exhibition, they usually think of games, rides and food. Why is it that whenever I go there I end up shopping 90% of the time? I love a good bargain. The Warehouse Outlet in the Direct Energy Centre is where I spent most of my time today (even though my main reason for going to The Ex today was to see the Toronto Urban Music Festival, and I reached there too late for that :( ). But I got so many clothes at a fraction of the price I would’ve paid at the regular store!!! 4 pairs of jeans for $60 and 6 T-shirts for $20 at Bluenotes… 6 pairs of dress pants for $30 at Sirens… and a (fake realistic looking) leather jacket, 2 sweatpants and a t-shirt at Fairweather for $28.

The ride home was brutal though. We had to stand the whole ride back to Union station after a 20 minute wait for a streetcar. I felt sorry for the people the streetcar passed by a few blocks away from the Exhibition grounds because it was so packed.

I’m glad I’m home now though. Maybe I’ll snack on the squished Tiny Tom Dounuts that are in my bag. I also need to make sure I have enough money left over to cover rent.
