Long time, no post…

Wow! It’s been almost 3 months since I last made a post on my blog. My sincere apologies to my devoted readers. I’ve been under a lot of stress lately with the new career (among other things). But I promise, once I’m all settled in and have more time on my hands, I’ll be posting a lot more regularly.

For now, visit my latest recipe that I entered into the Pillsbury Baking Contest: Apple Cheese Streusel Squares! They came out soooo delicious, especially with ice cream! So click on this link and rate my recipe whenever you can (once a day would be nice ;) ).

Talk to you all soon!

Move over Gabriel Grey… I’m the next watchmaker

Wall ClockOkay, perhaps I’m not that precise, but I did fix a clock today! I’m so proud of myself. Today was the Kitchen Stuff Plus Outlet on Orfus Road had one of their summer sidewalk sales. I got up bright and early (well at least for me) at 9am, but by the time I got there around 10:30 the place was swarmed with frantic customers eager to find a good deal.

I managed to score a stainless steel wall clock and a Chef’n salt grinder for $5; a large collapsible storage box, two awesome non-skid mixing bowls with lids, a white/stainless steel toothbrush holder, an OXO soap squirting dish sponge for $10; a pig-shaped scrubby holder with a scrubby for $2; and a slim sliding fine grater and a stainless steel kitchen utensil holder together for $5. Not a bad deal if I do say so myself. Especially considering that those utensil holders are usually $10-20, and the OXO kitchen gadgets run between $5-20 each.

Of course when I got home I realized that there was a piece missing from the grater: the little thingie that mandolin slicers usually have to push down the food. No biggie, I still got an cool grater that comes with a storage container. The worst was realizing that the wall clock I purchased didn’t work. When I put the battery in the second had was moving, but on the same second and not revolving around the clock! I’m thinking great… now what I’m I going to do with two broken clocks (including the one I had before to replace this one with). So I mustered up the courage and patience and took the whole thing apart.  I mean it worked when I bought my travel mug from the last Kitchen Stuff Plus sidewalk sale (the screw in the lid just needed to be tightened in order to get the open/close mechanism to work), so I thought why not?

Now I had no idea what I was doing. Sure I broke a couple of the plastic latches when I was trying to figure out how to get the darn clock open so I can take a look at the gears, but that’s what tape’s for! After pulling out the gears, resetting them, looking at the power source, five times, I gave up. I figured I’d put a battery in and check to see if by some great force that it would start working properly… and it did! It’s now hanging on my living room wall tick-tocking away. :)

Ironically, when I put batteries back into my old clock which stopped working, it started working again… :|

Just Another Day…

Happy BirthdayWell today I hit the 2-8 mark. I usually love celebrating my birthday, planning and organizing entertaining games and activities, preparing tasty food, or just going out with friends. But this year it’s different–my birthday actually snuck up on me. Probably due to the fact that funds are rather limited right now and I’m focused on school.

So I’m this much closer to 30, and as frightening as it may seem I’m glad to have a lot of perspective in my life. I am thankful for wonderful friends (one in particular ;) ) and family, and that I’m able to start another year in my life, looking forward to a bright future.

The weather is nice outside. Thank goodness all the snow has melted. I should do some spring cleaning later on. And I’ll be sure to bake myself a chocolate birthday cake tonight.

Hmm… hopefully the tax-man got me something nice… like a big refund. :)

Be careful washing knives…

It’s been a while since my last post… I’ve been busy! What have I been up to for the past couple of weeks? Well after having my 80s birthday party, just been working, playing basketball and continuing my muay Thai kickboxing (I’m at the intermediate level now, by the way!).

The weekend was alright aside from the fact that I got sick, and didn’t wake up feeling any better this morning, so I had to call in sick to work. I guess there was a good thing about not going to work today: The delivery guy came by with the stuff I ordered from Victoria’s Secret last week (that was fast!). I placed the order on Wednesday night, it was shipped on Friday, and I got it delivered today (Monday).  I usually hate getting a delivery while I’m at work (esp. if I’m looking forward to it), because it gets rerouted to the postal centre the following day and I don’t like lugging home with packages. Before your mind gets in the gutter, I didn’t order any sexy lingerie… I got some nice swim wear for my upcoming cruise (less than 3 weeks away!!!). One that I ordered is still on back order, so hopefully I’ll get it before my flight departs. Here is the other one I purchased in the zebra print… it’s so nice! Plus my order came with a free, cute beach bag! :)

On another note, I was washing my dishes in my kitchen a short while ago and I accidentally sliced open my thumb while I was cleaning a knife (yes, it hurt and there was a lot of blood). Seems to be okay now seeing as how I can type with both hands properly, but I’m going to be a lot more careful in the future as far as sharp objects are concerned.

I’ll try to get a review post up on Turbo Jam/Hip Hop Abs this week since I know a lot of people have been asking about it. As for now, I think I’m gonna make myself some tea and try to be rid of this cough, stuffy/runny nose and throbbing thumb.
