Tennis Anyone?

Jun

2014

It’s time I gave my salsa shoes some rest and pick up a new hobby: Tennis! People who know me,  know I’m always active doing something in my spare time, and this summer I decided to change it up a little and try a racquet sport.

I’ve never played tennis before,  but after watching great matches over the years on TV (and on my Nintendo Wii) I decided to give this new sport a try.

A friend of mine is a member of a tennis club,  so I managed to find one that still had spots available for this season. Scored some good deals (and went overboard a bit) on tennis gear and clothing (the skirts are so cute),  and now I’m ready to go!

It’s a shame that now I don’t have much money left over for actual tennis lessons,  but that’s what YouTube is for.  :-)

I had my first ladder match today and won both sets! Mind you, it was against other beginners,  so it’s all a learning process.  A ladder is basically a system of ranking tennis players,  allows access to set up challenges,  report scores and meet new people.  If youre thinking about joining a tennis club,  I highly recommend participating in the club’s ladder.

When I first joined I didn’t know how physically exerting it would be.  I was sweating after a few sets.  It’s a great work out total body workout though.

Wimbledon here I come!

Who Needs Resolutions?!

2014

Yeah, yeah… I know I made a new year’s resolution last year to blog more frequently. But I’m a procrastinator by nature.

I think my problem is that I write too much in my individual posts, and then I become too lazy to proofread, edit, re-size and watermark photos.

So this year I’ll “try” to blog a little more often, but remember that my posts need-not be 500-words long.

Stay tuned for a lot of “recaps” of topics I’ve started blogging about months ago, but haven’t published as yet!

So Much For New Year’s Resolutions

2013

Well I didn’t do too bad when it came to my resolutions for 2013. If you remember from my previous post, I was to budget more efficiently, make some art and post more on my blog.

One out of 3 ain’t bad, is it?

I managed to stick with my cash-only budget up until my birthday in March. Then I got lazy with tracking my purchases. But I’m still using mainly cash to purchase any items, and really thinking about what I’m buying (less impulse purchasing) which is a good thing.

As for art, I didn’t really start the painting aspect of it yet. But I did get some picture frames to house my photography, and stemmed the ‘art’ side to my baking: I made the cutest birthday cake a few weeks ago (yes, it was for my own birthday, so sue me). Will post photos soon.

I know I’ve been bad about keeping this blog updated on a semi-daily basis. It’s not that I don’t have a lot of stuff to blog about. It’s just that I procrastinate doing other things before focusing on my writing! This will change soon!

New Year’s Resolutions

2013

I’m stating this now: 2013 is going to be a great year for me! I’m going to try not think that I’m setting myself up for failure by actually making a list of resolutions this year, since my procrastination seems to get the better of me at times.

Resolution #1: Get Out of Debt
Discounts on merchandise aren’t worth it if they’re paid with a credit card with a high interest rate that’s not paid in full at the end of every month. This year I’m actually promising myself to take advice from Gail Vaz Oxlade and budget properly in order to climb my way out of consumer debt. It’s going to be a challenge, but living on cash may just be the kick I need to stop my pesky shopping habit.

Resolution #2: Make Some Art
I have a large repository of art and craft supplies: canvas, paint, fabric, glue, yarn, paper, charcoal, you-name-it. Problem is they’ve been sitting in storage containers for as long as I can remember. Heck, I promised to knit my friend a scarf for her birthday four years ago and it’s still on the needle half done! Damn this procrastination.

Resolution #3: Blog More Often
I’m not going to be specific and say I’m going to write a post on my blog at least three times a week (because I’ve already broke that resolution if you take into consideration the date of this post), but I will blog more frequently that I have been. After all, I didn’t design this site for nothing!

Happy Mayan Calendar Apocalypse Day!

2012

Well, it’s a good thing that I didn’t check everything off my bucket list before today, otherwise the rest of my life would be pretty boring.

December 21, 2012 has come and we’re all still here. This time around I wondered if people would’ve learned their lesson from the Y2K fiasco that held some type of Skynet-esque promise (okay, not really), that planes would fall from the sky, nuclear meltdowns, power and water failures.

I noticed that some news sources were covering reports on people buying doomsday bunkers and stocking up on supplies to keep them sated through the apocalypse. What a load of hooey.

I’m guess I could be called lucky: I survived both Y2K and the Mayan Apocalypse. I can’t wait to hear about what the next apocalyptic phenomenon will be.
